Abstract

Resident physician burnout, depression, and suicide is a growing epidemic in graduate medical education. The prevalence of resident burnout can be as high as 50% and can have serious short and long-term consequences. As many as 400 doctors die by suicide every year. While coping mechanisms and spirituality have been examined among medical residents in predicting the likelihood of developing burnout, no studies have examined a spiritual care intervention on the well-being of medical trainees.
