Abstract

Miniaturization of electronic components has allowed for the creation of a new SCS system for the treatment of chronic pain. The system consists of a battery-free, micro (<1.5 cc) implantable pulse generator (IPG) that is powered by an external unit, or Therapy Disc. The development of an externally powered SCS system eliminates the challenges and risks associated with recharging, premature battery failures, and battery replacement surgeries, common risks associated with fully implantable SCS systems.
