Abstract

Implanted intrathecal pumps can flip over in the pocket, a condition that can have serious consequences. Not only can a filled pump not be refilled but the dynamic movement can cause damage to the catheter. Some devices are designed so that the programmer can communicate with the implanted pump regardless of position. In this case, pump inversion was detected by a failure to obtain radiotelemetry communication between the pump and programmer.
