Abstract
The twenty-first century has witnessed watershed and seminal progress in digitalization, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and globalization. Because of multimedia, life in general has become more competitive and imaginative. The common enabling factor among digitalization, ICT and globalization is English language. Notwithstanding the politics of English versus Indian languages being played, the importance of English in today’s times can neither be overlooked nor underestimated. In fact English has come to be an integral part of professional life. Putting the uncalled for debate on English versus vernaculars at rest, energy must be spent on strengthening English Language Teaching (ELT) in India particularly rural India, where lack of proficiency in English works as an impediment in career prospects. The newer forms of technologies used for ELT are proving to be very effective and learner friendly. Therefore in these competitive times, interfacing ICT with ELT can prove to be a game changer.
