Abstract

The incidence of hip fracture is expected to increase in the coming years. Hip fracture is a devastating experience, where people commonly lose their ability to live independently; over half of the people who fracture their hip never regain their previous level of mobility. The rehabilitation of older patients with hip fracture is a balance between the need for maintaining their physical skills and their limited capacity to do so. Some of these patients are very frail and unable to respond to an accelerated rehabilitation programme.
