Abstract

Expressions for the total binding energy of atoms in icosahedral clusters with unfilled layers are obtained for a short-range interactions of atoms. These results and numerical calculations for the Lennard_Jones clusters with filled layers allow one to find the binding energy for the Lennard-Jones clusters with unfilled layers. Comparison of energetic parameters for clusters with icosahedral and face-centered cubic structures shows that the competition between these structures of clusters takes place in a wide range of cluster sizes.
