Abstract

At Exeter in 1972 (ICME-2), Professor Efraim Fischbein instituted a working group bringing together people working in the area of the psychology of mathematics education. At Karlsruhe, in 1976 (ICME-3), this group became affiliated to the International Commission for Mathematics Instruction (ICMI). The International Study Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME) has met each year since 1976 in many of the different countries from which its members derive.
