Abstract

At present, researches on the icing characteristics of insulators of high-altitude transmission lines are mainly carried out through simulation tests in artificial climate chambers. However, the environmental conditions in artificial climate chambers are still different from those in natural environments, and there are few researches on the icing growth of insulators, so it is necessary to study the icing characteristics of insulators in natural environments. In this paper, the natural icing test of XP-70 porcelain insulator was carried out in Xuefeng Mountain natural icing test base, and the weight and shape of the icing were observed and analyzed. The test results show that: The same as the artificial test, the amount of insulator icing increases with the time lose, and the icing weight on the windward side is more than that on the leeward side. However, under the condition of natural icing, the icing on the insulator is very different from the single icing condition on the artificial climate chamber. The actual meteorological factors of natural icing environment are complex and changeable, with large fluctuations in wind speed, temperature and humidity, and the curve of icing weight is not stable. This study can provide reference for the selection of insulator anti-icing in high altitude environment.
