Patients who are followed regularly in a device clinic have the pacing and sensing thresholds as well as the pacing and (if it is an implantable defibrillator lead) high-voltage impedance of the lead measured on a regular basis. Many modern devices take daily measurements of these same parameters and provide them on device interrogation in the clinic or by remote monitoring. There are even audible and vibratory alarms that can alert the patient when lead impedance exceeds the high or low limit that has been set into the device.
