Abstract

Primary dysmenorrhea affects 40% to 70% of reproductive-aged women; its most likely cause is prostaglandins acting on uterine muscle. Prostaglandin-inhibiting nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are mainstays of treatment, but they have a slow onset of action. Combining the NSAID ibuprofen with arginine, a nitric-oxide synthesizer, accelerates the absorption of ibuprofen and might reduce gastric mucosal injury. These …
