Abstract
Program Description: This miniseminar will comprehensively review the pertinent anatomy and surgical techniques to help avoid an iatrogenic CSF leak during rhinologic or otologic surgery. The role of imaging to diagnose and locate a CSF fistula will be discussed. Techniques will be discussed to repair leaks in the intraoperative and postoperative settings, including use of lumbar drainage, transmastoid and middle fossa approaches to the temporal bone, as well as endoscopic and open approaches to repair rhinologic leaks. Materials used to repair these leaks will be reviewed. A case-based format will be used to illustrate key points. Educational Objectives: 1) List the pertinent anatomy and techniques to avoid an iatrogenic CSF leak of the temporal bone and anterior skull base. 2) Use of the various imaging modalities for the diagnosis and localization of postoperative CSF fistulas. 3) Identify and manage an intraoperative CSF fistula using various surgical techniques and materials for repair.
