Abstract

This year’s 52nd Annual IATEFL Conference is hosted in the ‘conference capital’ of the UK, Brighton. We’ll be gathering from 10–13 April 2018 at the Brighton Centre for the main event, with Pre-Conference events (PCEs) and our dedicated Associates Day on 9 April. With ever increasing participant numbers, we anticipate topping last year’s figures in Glasgow where we welcomed almost 3,000 delegates from over 100 countries. Amongst our line-up in Brighton, we are delighted to welcome five outstanding plenary speakers. Prolific materials writer and self-publisher, Dorothy Zemach, world-renowned researcher in second language acquisition, Professor Lourdes Ortega, and Barry Sullivan, founding president of the UK Association of Language Testing and Assessment, will seek to challenge your ideas on coursebook conception, SLA and the future of testing respectively. The Executive Director of Women for Women International UK, Brita Fernandez Schmidt, will speak about empowering women through education, while on the final day, it falls to poet, playwright and short story writer, John Agard to regale us during the closing plenary.
