Abstract

Chitosan-I2 is prepared by doping of chitosan with iodine (I2). Chitosan-I2 are characterized by physical and spectral methods. Chitosan-I2 is used as catalyst for the first time in acetalization of carbonyl compounds. The catalyzed acetalization of benzaldehyde and glycol is conducted in excellent yields with simple and more environmental benign procedure. The use of chitosan-I2 catalyst is feasible because of its easy preparation, easy handling, stability, easy recovery, reusability, good activity and eco-friendly.
