Abstract

Angelica sinensis has been used widely to cute women's peculiar disease in China. Because of its broad pharmacological effects, it has been adopted in a lot of traditional Chinese medicinal prescription. The purpose of this study is to find the possibility to mass-propagate and improve the quality of A. sinensis by developing its immature embryos. It was found that the embryogenic callus, normal plantlets and abnormal plantlets could be induced from immature embryos cultured on MS basal medium for one month. The growth of embryogenic callus on MS basal medium was better than on B5 and White medium. The inorganic nitrogen source in the medium, NH4(superscript +): NO3(superscript -)=1:2 or 1:4, are the better combination. The embryogenic callus showed better growth when cultured under light (2,000 lux) than in darkness. 25℃ was the optimal temperature for the growth of embryogeni callus.
