Abstract
This chapter presents an overview on the historical traditions of Arab al-Ḥīra. It presents a detailed examination of the form, genre, literary merit and historicity of the Arabic sources for pre-Islamic period. The chapter discusses the Arab-Islamic tradition. The history of al-Ḥīra, its kings and its poet occupies a large space in the Arab reports. Lahmiden in al-Ḥīra and its capital attracted the attention as the cultural and political center in Abbasid period. This Arab-Islamic tradition continues to form, by their very large size, the main source for the representation of al-Ḥīra. The chapter discusses the Dynastic history and local history of the al-Ḥīra. It presents an overview on the ancient Arabic poetry of the al-Ḥīra. The pre-Islamic Arabic poetry has been evaluated as a historical source for the ancient Arabic term.
