Abstract

It is indispensable for achieving an accurate positioning to get the positions of satellites exactly. The authors tried to measure a range from a VSAT (very small aperture terminal for satellite communication), located at Tokyo University of Mercantile Marine, to the communication satellite JCSAT-1, on geostationary orbit at 150°E. The measured absolute ranges have the standard deviation of 2 m and agree reasonably well with the values simultaneously measured at the satellite control center. Delays in the communication devices are also estimated for comparison. We evaluate the accuracy of position fixing of two satellites, at 110°E and 150°E, and then of the mobile stations on the earth by using two satellites thus fixed.
