Abstract

Crusades’ task was to liberate Holy Places, while Holy Leagues were contracted to stop Ottoman armies marching toward Rome. In the first case popes organized military expeditions to the Holy Land, and in the case those who contracted the League swore fealty to the Pope. The article presents fifteen popes, twelve of them had a connection with calling Crusades, and three of them organized of Holy Leagues.
