Abstract
The 165th birthday of a prominent Russian physiologist, academician Ivan Petrovich Pavlov is to be marked in September 2014. Hitherto, I.P. Pavlov is the only Nobel laureate in physiology or medicine in recognition for the work conducted in Russia (Nobel Prize winners I.I. Mechnikov, S.A. Waksman, and I.R. Prigozhin worked abroad).

Павлов поступил на 3-й курс Императорской Медикохирургической академии, одновременно (в 1876-1878 гг.) он работал в физиологической лаборатории К.Н. Павлов был оставлен заведовать физиологической лабораторией при терапевтической клинике С.П. До конца жизни Павлов руководил Институтом физиологии АН СССР.
