Abstract
On the 28th of February, 1867, I had the honour of submitting to the inspection of the Royal Society a Transit-Instrument and a Zenith-Sector made for the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India, to be used respectively for the determination of longitude and latitude on that work. These were one instalment of the following list of geodesical and astronomical instruments which the Secretary of State for India deputed me to design and superintend under construction :— One Great Theodolite,with a 3-feet Horizontal Circle. By Messrs, Troughton and Simms. Two Zenith-Sectors. By Messrs. Troughton and Simms. Two 5- feet Transit-Instruments. By Messrs. T. Cooke and Sons, York.
