Abstract

The charge exchange, ionization and electron loss cross-sections for the reactions Ar + and Ar in H 2, He, Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe have been examined in single collision conditions. The total cross-sections have been determined by using the condenser method. Comparison of cross-sections with experimental results of De Heer, Gilbody and Hasted, and theoretical results of Karmohapatro have been made. Different collision processes in the excited state are possible. The ionization cross-sections by ions are higher than the ionization cross-sections by atoms. In some collision combinations the roughly estimated distance of interaction for the ionization process is compared with the distance of interaction for charge exchange determined by the criterion of Massey.
