Abstract

Jeremy Deller is one of the most important – and influential – British artists working today. His work encompasses social memory, folk art, re-enactment, situationist polemic and a dedicated interest in art as a social form of political engagement. This interview introduces his work and explores some of his key ideas. He is particularly interesting to those working in the field of history for his continuing engagement with memory, re-enactment, the nature of the artefact, and the ways in which the past is produced (and reproduced) in popular culture. Images and video from all of Deller's work are available here: http://www.jeremydeller.org
