Abstract
Endometriosis is a common gynecologic disease of reproductive age women. Several cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor-α, are elevated in peritoneal fluid of women with endometriosis. Hypoxia is also a critical stress during the development and progression of endometriosis. We hypothesized that aberrant expression of IL-6 is under the regulation of HIF-1α in endometriotic stromal cells.
