Abstract

The adenohypophysis was once regarded as a ‘master gland’ responsible for the control and integration of many aspects of endocrine function. However, 30 years ago it became evident from the ingenious studies of the late G. W. These studies provided a powerful stimulus to the growth of the new science of vertebrate neuroendocrinology.
