Abstract

A new dibenzofuran, named hypostrepsilalic acid, was isolated from a spore-derived mycobiont culture of the lichen, Stereocaulon japonicum, and structurally characterized. Hypostrepsilalic acid was not detected in the natural lichen sample, which produced both atranorin and stictic acid.
