Abstract

Disorders and tumors of the pituitary gland influence so much of the body that this little organ is well worth the detailed study by two eminent neurosurgeons from Freiburg. The introductory discussion of anatomy and physiology is followed by a special section by P. M. Reisert on endocrine investigations. Clinical symptomatology, roentgenologic investigations, operative and roentgenotherapeutic techniques precede the detailed exposition of results of these treatments, culled from the authors' extensive experiences and from the worldwide literature. Particular emphasis, of encyclopedic proportion, is given to the authors' specialties —stereotaxy and radioactive isotopes. Techniques, indications for hypophysectomy in metastatic tumors, and the results, diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, and malignant exophthalmos constitute the last 50 pages of this wellprinted, profusely illustrated, expensive (10c per page) German monograph.
