Abstract

Hypolipidemic effect of fruit juice of Hippophae rhamnoides L was evaluated in 1% cholesterol and 10% ground nut oil diet induced hyper cholesteremic models of New Zealand rabbits. The fruit juice at 0.46ml/kg body weight reduced the elevated serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride, low density cholesterol (LDL-C), atherogenic index, and C - reactive protein levels on diet induced rabbits. The juice at the same dose significantly enhanced the high density lipoprotein (HDL) in high fat diet (HFD) induced hyperlipidemic rabbits. The reference compound atorvastatin showed significant (p<0.05) effects.
