Abstract

Most extracranial hypoglossal schwannomas are noted in parapharyngeal space. They are seldom found in submandibular space. They usually present as a neck mass with hypoglossal nerve palsy. However, if there was no obvious neurologic symptom, it would be possible endanger the hypoglossal nerve during removal of the tumor. We reported a patient who presented with a submandibular mass without neurologic symptom. Hypoglossal schwannoma was proved during operation by frozen section. The tumor was excised with well-preserved hypoglossal nerve function.
