Abstract
RATIONALE: Art v 1, the major mugwort pollen allergen was recently characterized and shown to have high sequence similaritiy to the plant defensin family. The influence of the eight cysteines present in the N-terminal domain of Art v 1 was tested with regard to antibody binding activity and T cell recognition in order to obtain hypoallergenic variants for treatment of type I allergy.
