Abstract

During the eighth cruise of the R/V Anton Bruun, as part of the International Indian Ocean Expedition a bacterium was isolated from bottom mud at a depth of 400 meters. The extreme pleomorphism of this organism commended it for detailed study. It was subsequently named Hyphomicrobium indicum and a comparative study with other Hyphomicrobium sp. undertaken.
