Abstract
The C3H 10T 1/2 mouse embryo cell line was used to determine the effect of hyperthermia on the in vitro oncogenic transforming potential of X irradiation. Heat exposures of 15 min at 45°C or 60 min at 43°C yielded no transformation (frequency < 0.3× 10-4). When either of these heat exposures preceded exposure to 200 rad of X rays, a four- to fivefold increase in the mean transformation frequency occurred over that resulting from X rays alone. These results may have important clinical implications.
