Abstract

Introduction: Hypertensive disorders are considered as the main cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality worldwide. In Ecuador, preeclampsia and eclampsia are reported as the leading cause of maternal death for more than a decade. Objective: To know the behavior of preeclampsia and eclampsia in pregnant teenage pregnant women, treated at the General Teaching Hospital of Riobamba. Methodology: non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional research conducted in pregnant teenagers treated at the General Teaching Provincial Hospital of Riobamba in the period from May to December 2017. Results: there was an average age of 16.32 years, with predominance Nulliparous (62.65%), 19.84% of adolescent girls had preeclampsia and 3.11% eclampsia; Of these, 77.97% presented comorbidities, with arterial hypertension (44%) and diabetes mellitus (22%) being the most represented. 88.83% of the mothers presented complications where preterm birth (67.80%) was the most frequent presentation. 64.41% of the fetuses presented complications with 14% of fetal death. Conclusions: there was a high percentage of adolescents with preeclampsia and eclampsia. The most represented maternal complications were preterm birth, headache and edema in the lower limbs. While fetal suffering, CIUR and prematurity were the determining complications in neonates. The risk factors for preeclampsia and eclampsia that were most representative were nulliparity and the presence of associated comorbidities.
