Hypertensive disorder of pregnancy prevalence and associated factors among pregnant women attending ante natal care at Gondar town health Institutions, North West Ethiopia 2017.

Abstract

Hypertensive disorders of Pregnancy are the major complications that cause about 60%-80% of all maternal deaths. Preeclampsia is a major hypertensive disorder of pregnancy that had caused maternal mortalities and morbidities all round the world. To assess the prevalence of pregnancy induced hypertension disorder and associated factors among pregnant women attending antenatal care service at Gondar town public health institutions. Institutional based cross-sectional study were conducted from April-June 2017 in Gondar town public health institutions, Northwest Ethiopia. The data were entered and analyzed by using SPSS version 20.0. The prevalence of hypertensive disorder of pregnancy were 16.8%. Maternal age, family history of hypertension, and alcohol intake during pregnancy were significantly associated with hypertensive disorder of pregnancy. The finding of this study showed that there were a considerable proportion of women had hypertensive disorder of pregnancy. Therefore, it is important to give health education to develop health seeking behavior of pregnant women.
