Abstract
Background: One of the major drawbacks in laparoscopic surgery is the lack of tactile feedback that may result in poor tissue recognition and even irradical resections. To overcome this problem real-time tissue recognition (e.g. tumor versus normal tissue) could be of great benefit. In this study hyperspectral imaging (HSI) was used as a tool for real-time tissue classification during colorectal surgery.
