Abstract

Purpose: We report the case of a 42-year-old woman who underwent myopic laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) with consecutive hyperopia. Method: To treat persistent, poor, uncorrected visual acuity experienced for seven months, the patient underwent hyperopic LASIK enhancement with a relifting procedure in the right eye. Result: After corrective hyperopic LASIK, the spherical equivalent improved from +1.75 D preoperatively to -0.12 D postoperatively. The uncorrected visual acuity improved from 20/40 to 20/25. Neither corneal epithelial ingrowth nor flap striae were observed at the last follow-up six months postoperatively. Conclusion: We propose that hyperopic LASIK with a relifting procedure is a safe, predictable, and effective treatment for hyperopia caused by overcorrected myopic LASIK. Studies with longer follow-up times and more patients should provide more definitive data.
