Abstract

Persistent hypermetabolism despite hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass, implied by low mixed venous oxygen saturation, offers a formidable challenge to the anesthesiologist. Described in this report is an episode of significant hypermetabolism that occurred during bilateral single-lung transplantation and required the assist of cardiopulmonary bypass.
