Abstract

IN reviewing the literature of the hyperglobulinaemias one is struck by the frequency of the reports of a concomitant haemorrhagic diathesis. In a survey by us of more than a thousand cases of macroglobulinaemia, cryoglobulinaemia, visceral leishmaniasis and miscellaneous hyperglobulinaemias, a haemorrhagic diathesis was reported in 63–94 per cent of the cases in each category. These observations suggest that purpura is a general phenomenon in the presence of increased plasma globulins.
