Abstract

The hyperfine structure (HFS) constants and isotope shifts (ISs) for some Cu I and Cu II levels were determined by fitting Fourier transform (FT) spectra from the US National Solar Observatory. The HFS constants of 43 levels of Cu I and 31 levels of Cu II were determined, of which 35 results of Cu I and 16 results of Cu II are reported for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. Meanwhile, the ISs of 52 Cu I transitions and 31 Cu II transitions were also determined. These transitions respectively cover wavelengths from 223.078 to 2461.4 nm for Cu I and from 224.77 to 1791.747 nm for Cu II. Since in the stellar atmosphere copper is mainly present as singly ionized species, the new HFS data of Cu II will be very valuable for more accurate astronomical spectral analysis related to copper.
