Abstract

Carboxylic carbon nanotubes were used to raise the absorbance of the coloration system for the determination of lead by spectrophotometry. The effects of carboxylic carbon nanotubes and the addition order of reactants on the absorbance of the coloration system were investigated, and the hyperchromic mechanism of carboxylic carbon nanotubes was also studied. The results shows that the absorbance of the coloration system increases with the addition of carboxylic carbon nanotubes due to that the Pb2+-phenylfluorone complex can be absorbed onto the surface of the tubes, which can reduce the adverse effects caused by the hydrolysis reaction of lead, and raise the absorbance.
