Abstract

A new concept called hyperarchitecture for the representation of complex and hierarchical structures in architectural design is presented especially in view of CAAD-applications. Analogies between linguistic, pictoral and architectural generation and organization are pointed out under conceptions of hypertext, hypermedia and hyperreality. The need for hierarchical structures in architecture is discussed under the notions of hypergeneration and categorial hyperarchitectures. Use of complex building models in CAAD applications is discussed and the concept of hypermodel is introduced. The exact manipulation of architectural nigh-order structures allows rationalization of complex knowledge used in the design and planning process by the participating individuals. A hypertext approach should oner new possibilities to teamwork and knowledge maintenance and support decision making in CAD. Synergetic use of multiexpert systems are discussed under the concept of master systems guiding architectural synthesis. In the study of complex man-machine systems the level of hyperarchitectures extends the scope of discussion from architectural machines radically to a new and more humanistic direction.
