Abstract

Abstract Extract Disease of pigs caused by internal parasitism has never been regarded as a problem of economic importance in New Zealand, but, on occasions, there has been trouble with the common roundworm, Ascaris lumbricoides. The reason for this freedom from roundworm infestation is the general use of whey or skim milk as the basic diet. However, if the ration does not include a large amount of either of these substances, the ascarid population soon builds up and young pigs may suffer serious effects.
