Abstract

The hydroxyphosphinidene cluster Ru 4(CO) 13( μ 3-POH) 2, a member of a new class of organometallic acids has been synthesised and structurally characterised. The μ 3-POH ligand which caps an open Ru 3 face of 2 can be deprotonated by base to give a phosphorus monoxide cluster anion [Ru 4(CO) 12( μ 3-PO)]- 4. Capping of the Ru 3P face of 2 with Pt(CO)(PPh 3) affords the mixed metal cluster acid Ru 4Pt(CO) 13(PPh 3)( μ 4-POH) 5.
