Abstract

Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is a drug being increasingly used in the treatment of various autoimmune disorders. Retinal toxicity is a complication of prolonged use causing permanent visual loss in patients receiving HCQ. We report a case of HCQ retinopathy who received the drug for 35 years for rheumatoid arthritis. She had never been advised for ophthalmologic evaluation before. Interprofessional collaboration will help in the early detection of retinal damage, treatment with alternate drugs, and prevention of permanent retinal damage.
