Abstract
Coronavirus disease the pandemic, the novel disease, started a year back. The disease started in China that infected more a million of people all over the world. As the disease started, various trial and error methods also started alongside for treating the disease. There is a need to select the potential treatment which will effectively destroy the virus, increase recovery, and reduce case morbidity/mortality rate. There was no specific antiviral drug to treat the disease. Therefore, use of the existing drugs gives a good clinical option. Selecting the drug to be used is very difficult because their mechanisms of action of the drug and its interaction with disease and progression of SARS is unknown. This was the time when hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) was introduced in the treatment protocol of the disease. HCQ the drug has been used for decades for treatment and prophylaxis for diseases like malaria. Various researches were carried out and are still ongoing to see the potential therapeutic treatment in preventing COVID-19. HCQ and CQ (chloroquine) are named as the “game changers” for COVID-19. The present study is a review article carried out to see the effect of HCQ drug in treating patients of COVID-19.
