Abstract

A precipitation study of hydroxyapatite in aqueous solution at 85°C and using a semibatch process is presented. The influence of pH, reactant addition and flow rate on stoichiometry and crystallinity of the obtained product is analysed. The mixing process determines the stoichiometry of the precipitate. The crystals are of nanometric sizes. A comparison of the product obtained with other techniques or conditions is presented. Higher flow rates do not change the characteristics of the product but reduce the synthesis time, increasing the industrial interest of the method.
