Abstract

The crystal growth of 3d transition metal fluorides by the hydrothermal method is examined. Ternary systems H2O - (AF or BaF2) - (MF2 or M′F3) and quaternary systems H2O - (AF or BaF2) - MF2 - M′F3 (A = alcaline or ammonium; MII = Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu; M′III = Al, V, Cr, Fe) are investigated. The temperature, the concentration of hydrofluorhydric acid and the presence of reducing agents greatly influence the nature of the crystallisation. Besides the known species, low temperature varieties, hydrates or ammonium compounds are reported.
