Abstract

In the present work, the possibility of Al/Zn, Al/Cu and Al/Fe nanopowders oxidation by water under hydro-thermal conditions was investigated. Bicomponent nanopowders were synthesized by electric explosion of two different wires under argon atmosphere. TEM analysis revealed that obtained nanoparticles have spherical shape and the average size around 100 nm. The composition of bimetallic nanoparticles can be controlled by adjusting the ratio of two metal precursors. The mass content of Zn was 30%, Cu—21%, Fe—25%. According to X-ray analysis data, Al/Zn nanopowder contains solid solution of aluminum, zinc and zinc oxide; Al/Cu and Al/Fe contain Al-based solid solution and number of intermetallic compounds. It has been shown that under hydrothermal conditions Al/Zn, Al/Cu and Al/Fe bimetallic nano-particles could be oxidized by water with formation of composite nanoplates. These nanoparticles may find application in biomedicine, catalytic processes, as solid oxide fuel cell, functional additives, etc.
