Abstract

A new metal-organic framework {[Ni(H2BPTC)(tpy)- (H2O)] · (H2O)3}n (1) (H4BPTC = 1,1ʹ-biphenyl-2,2ʹ,6,6ʹ- tetracarboxylic acid, tby = 2,2ʹ:6,2ʺ-terpyridine) has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and IR spectroscopy. The one-dimensional metalorganic chains of the title complex, namely {Ni(H2BPTC)- (tpy)(H2O)}n, are connected through weak π · · ·π and C- H· · ·π interactions to form layers, which are further held together by rich O-H· · ·O hydrogen bonding to give a threedimensional supramolecular network. The thermal stability of the title complex was studied by thermal gravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA).
