Abstract

A new organically templated iron(II) phosphatooxalate, (N 2C 4H 12)[Fe 4(C 2O 4) 3(HPO 4) 2(H 2O) 2] I, has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure possesses infinite chains made from Fe 2O 10 dimers and PO 4 tetrahedra bridged by bidentate oxalate units and strong interlayer P–O–H-oxalate hydrogen bonds. The diprotonated piperazinium cations are located in the intersecting tunnels parallel to the [1 0 0] and [0 1 0] directions.
