Abstract
A method is presented for the daily scheduling of hydrothermal power systems. Initially, hydro plant is committed by a step-loading schedule. Subsequently optimal load flow computations to schedule thermal generation and VAr allocation alternate with a gradient or Newton search to improve the hydro schedule. Realistic constraints are included.
