Abstract

The hydrostatic pressure dependence of the susceptibility has been measured in PrS. Contrary to previous measurement a monotonic decreasing slope is found of (-0.20 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.02)%/kbar. Comparison with results for PrTe and PrSe shows that generally a simple point-charge crystal-field calculation overestimates the experimental results for the Pr monochalcogenides but that probably their static and pressure-dependent properties are consistent with such a model.
